Hi, I know that this is not "the forum for this" (those TV news guy's words keep beating in my memory) but I would like to know if you have an YT channel?. I do and I would like to add u to my fav's there to help spreading the news about your company.
About this nasty episode: do u have any way to identify that tv show and do some boycot?. Do those guys "own" the sidewalk?. Keep spreading about this vid, but, perhaps u could've also videotaped the car plate.
One last thing, is there any way to enlarge the grey font in the comments?. It's hard for me to read it. Thanx very much for your reply and for what you do (I'm from South America and English is not my first language).

I agree about hunger being a big and complex problem ... but the good news is, we know what the solutions are. Yes, they are big undertakings; yes, it may take decades to get there; but yes, there are dedicated people that are working every day to educate, advocate, and most of all find food for the hungry right here in our communities. Thank you for helping keep a high profile on the issue of hunger in America.

Just another note on hunger and the decline of western civilization. A 93 year old guy from Minnesota, Norman Borlaug, is widely credited, in the fast-lane life-on-the-razor's-edge world of agronomy, with saving the lives of one billion human beings worldwide. He has won the Nobel Prize, The Presidential Medal of Freedom and, last week, The Congressional Gold Medal, but has never been on reality TV or in G.Q. He has no blog. Ever heard of him? I hadn't either until I read a brief column in Newsweek. In the 40's old Norm developed hybrid wheat strains called "dwarf wheat" and created planting techniques that have been successfully applied in Central and South America, India and China. This guy really has saved the lives of over a billion people.

His continuing obscurity (compared to, say, Paris Hilton or David Hasselhoff) is bizarrely sad. Saving one-seventh of humanity just doesn't cut it, I guess.

Wow, how strange... people here are doing something to help the hungry, and for some reason there are a bunch of trolls who feel the need to attack them? For what? For not doing enough, or for not ending hunger, or for focusing on hunger in the US? That is really pathetic.

Here's how it works. These guys did something (dressed up as a mascot and went to an iPhone line and ended up in a video that was picked up by Boing Boing) that got this Web site some hits. One of those hits was mine. I read the material, thought about it, and sent $100 to America's Second Harvest.

Now, because of Hungrr, America's Second Harvest has $100 that they would not have otherwise had. What's wrong with that? Not sure I see the problem...

Keep up the good work!

Your video ended up at www.canoë.ca in a french blog.
The journalist who posted the article was mostly in favour of the news crew (of course!).
I was not.
I think your cause is worthy, noble, and much more important than yet another coverage of a waiting line in front of an electronic goods store selling the latest hype gadget.
Hunger is a much more pressing need then getting an i-phone, I think...
But... er... Everybody on the blog agrees on one thing, though: the mascot IS ugly... Sorry!

I also saw your video on youtube and ordered a button to contribute to your cause. Too bad the American media is so concerned with showing off $600 gadgets and promoting spending, but won't even so much as let a charity representative be present in the background of their shot.

I propose changing the name of the food stamp program to the delinquent fine reimbursement office or auto insurance reimbursement office. I pushed for a food stamp survey (thru the Montana DPHHS), poorly done in Billings, MT, that indicated 18 of 96 food stamp applicants listed DUI issues, fines, or auto insurance as a reason for needing food stamps (that equals over 70,000 over the last 20 years in Montana would have listed those reasons).

It stands to reason, that an indigent, having to immediately pay 500$ for a late fine or auto insurance, would have a problem buying his own food, and would probably have to go to the food stamp (fine reimbursement office) to get something to eat. I estimate the food stamp program could save 100 million dollars per year if the states would change their laws (require community service for late fines, get low cost auto insurance for indigentls).

So many people never understand performance art. Oh well, so many people do. If you guys are paying taxes, helping at homeless shelters, getting things done, donating money and raising awareness in a fun way more power to ya! Someday I hope that people will see the way to end poverty is by themselves taking action to help those less fortunate and rally against their governments for things like a lot of the ideals and proposals by Bucky Fuller. Hunger is a serious issue and so many times laughter is the best medicine or at least instigator to getting things done.

I haven't looked too much into to what you're doing, but from what I've seen, I approve. So few people are aware of the poverty many Americans face, but you're bringing it into awareness. It seems as though you cover the bases that are typically neglected, such as advocacy and sustainability. I'm also glad to see that you not only press on despite criticism, but also reply to that criticism reasonably and without confrontation. You're doing a great thing here, and doing it well. I wish you the best.

Thank you toasterhead, for your thoughtful and knowledgeable comments. We think that solving the long term problem begins when there are enough people who are aware of the facts of hunger in America. We think that eliminating the word "hunger" from official government reports will not help bring attention to the problem. We think that saying "millions of Americans suffer from 'low food security'" is confusing and, in fact, minimizes the impact this information has on the public. We think in a battle for awareness and understanding, words, and how they communicate and resonate with the public, is of the utmost importance. We agree with your assesment of the issue in general but also don't wish to underplay the necessary role food banks and soup kittchens play in the everyday lives of millions of Americans. Thanks.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss terms such as "low food security" or "food insecurity" as doublespeak. They are accurate terms for what is, fundamentally, an economic problem. Hunger is easily cured with a bowl of soup or a loaf of bread. Food insecurity is much more difficult. Food insecurity -- or chronic hunger, if you prefer -- is not a food problem. It's about entitlement, when a family's income and assets drop below the line needed to keep themselves fed.

Food banks and soup kitchens are a good temporary fix for a family in immediate need, but they don't solve the long-term problem of ensuring that families are able to earn an income that will let them survive. Job training, job opportunities, affordable housing, educational opportunities -- these are the things that can truly help end hunger, rather than just postpone it.

Why don't you read some of the entries in this blog? Maybe you will be educated to the issue.
The issue of hunger in America is not one of starvation or famine that exists throughout the world.
According to the just release report by the USDA, there are 35 million Americans in need of food assistance.
Many children are malnourished.
www.each1-teach1DOTorg/Home1.asp
They are not starving. And the obese are often malnourished.

end hunger? wtf how about end obesity?
this is hardly even an issue in america, why not go worry about the millions actually starving in third-world countries?
what we need in america is less food, not more.
and cut the randomass cartoon crap. It's a juxtaposition, the random orange attention-getter thing trying to lightheartedly speak about the morbid subject of starvation and malnutrition. Self-defeating. But so is your whole campaign in the first place. Find something else to support. This is just bull$@# protesting.
i really just don't see how that puts food in starving people's mouths.

Would have been nice if that article had empahsized the fact that, if the mom had been encouraged to breast-feed and received ongoing support with it in the first place, she would most likely not be all stressed out over how to feed her baby because she ran out formula -- her body would be taking care of making sure her baby had a steady supply of the perfect food nature intended babies to have! Meanwhile, we've got these ridiculously uptight, not to mention completely selfish, ignoramuses running around insisting that nursing breasts are obscene because, you know, a glimpse of a nursing breast might make them blush and give them a hard-on and or some other unspeakable thing -- wtf? You can't take it and want images of nursing babies blacked out and nursing moms to cover their babies faces with blankets, here's a suggestion -- get help because you've got a problem!!! Or just don't look!!! The fact that anyone would interfere in ANY way with a baby being allowed to eat the way nature designed is completely selfish and despicable, and they should be ashamed of themselves. Ugh! They contribute to the making of sad stories like the one in this article. What a giant step back for mankind.

"In the U.S., obesity is more common in households of limited financial means, with those living below the poverty level to make up the highest percentages of the obese. This is what is called the “Hunger-Obesity Paradox”, where the seemingly opposite concepts of hunger and obesity coexist within the same person, in the same household.
But how can that be true ? It’s natural to think that if a person is poor and doesn’t have enough food to eat, that they would be slim. But, in the U.S., the highest rates of obesity occur among the poorest people."

wow, on youtube.com i saw this video, and the one comment with santa clause is so true, and i find it extremely disturbing, like the fact so many countrys DO burn food!
i mean 2/3 of the United States Population is over weight, and we have it lucky, when you go to the pantry to get some cookies or candy or whatever, just think how lucky you are to have clean water, a good home, entertainment.....like all those new gaming systems out there now a days, and try your best to donate to your local food shelf, or curch, or any place to try and help others
well thats all i really have to say,
