Saturday, May 8th, letter carriers in 10,000 communities collect food and deliver to local food banks. Help some of the millions of Americans, including about 16 million kids, who face hunger every day. Place bags filled with nonperishable food like canned meats, fish, soup, juice and vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice next to your mailbox on Saturday, May 8th.”

Why is hunger, almost eliminated in the 70’s, now widespread in America?
Dr. J. Larry Brown, formerly on the faculty of the Harvard School of Public Health,
served as chairman of the Physician Task Force on Hunger in America. He currently runs the
Center on Hunger and Poverty at Brandeis. He asks,
“Why doesn’t America end hunger like other nations have?”

Got 5 to 15,000 sq. feet of warehouse space anywhere near Murfreesboro, TN ? Feed America First, distributes food to 160 agencies in 58 counties in rural Tennessee, northern Alabama and Mississippi, and is losing it’s lease. Director Tom Henry is in need of a warehouse.
“Our approach is that hunger is a community issue and that hunger will be eliminated when we don’t let our neighbors go hungry,” Henry said.

UPDATE June 25 The President’s second veto is overridden.
The Senate votes 80-14 to approve the measure over Bush’s second veto and
the House of Representatives votes 317-109 for passage. The Bill is law.
June 11 – President Vetos Incomplete Farm Bill
The Farm Bill will be voted on again and then sent back for another Presidential veto due to a
clerical error that omitted 34 pages from the document vetoed by President Bush.
